Walking in the area Sedella is the ideal base for a walking holiday. The surrounding Sierra de Tejeda and Almijara provides everything from a country stroll to a full day mountain hike. Walk through ancient olive and lemon groves on old mule tracks which link traditional white villages. The only people you meet are the occasional goat herder , farmer tending the land or the odd mule ploughing the land by conventional means. Ploughing the land in 2005!
For the more experienced walker or we can arrange for a local English Speaking guide, embark upon high mountain peaks and view the magnificent wild bird life of Griffon Vultures soaring overhead. You will be rewarded with stunning views of the Mediterranean and beyond to the mountains of North Africa. Two paths lead up to the summit of La Maroma (6200ft). One of these starts in the nearby village Canillas de Aceituno, another close to Sedella. In either case the ascent will take approximately 4 hours.
For nature lovers and those who like walking in the countryside, the Sierra de Tejeda mountain range is ideal. Here one can find the old Arrieros road, the Cave of Horeada, the Maroma peak and the Salto del Caballo (Horse leap). The Tejo tree can be seen here too, one of the biggest of Andalucia's ancient trees that belongs to the conifer family. The species goes back millions of years, with fossil finds showing its existence more than 150 million years ago. see link exploring on horseback www.caballos-mosquin.com How do I get here?
